A note from the founder

Why Rūh exists.

Rūh is a fabric-first modestwear brand built on the belief that clothing should respect both the body and the earth. We work almost exclusively with natural fibres — cotton, TENCEL™ and other plant-based textiles — because science confirms what tradition always knew: natural fabrics are better for your skin, your health, and your modesty.

Everything is released in limited numbers and never restocked. Not as a tactic — but because that is what considered making actually looks like. Each piece begins with the fabric. The silhouette follows.

For centuries, clothing was made from the earth. We are simply returning to that.

Most modestwear brands start with a beautiful product. We started with a problem nobody in industry seemed bothered by: it's nearly all synthetic.

The story so far

How we got here.

2022

The background

After years of passion about women's health and fitness — thinking about what goes into the body and what quietly works against it. A lens that, eventually, turned toward what sits against the skin all day: clothes.

2023

The realization

of covering fully means being in fabric head to toe, all day. I started reading labels like ingredients lists — and nearly all of modest wear came back polyester, nylon, acrylic. Plastic, marketed as elegance.

Jan 2025

The decision

No natural-fibre alternative existed at the standard I wanted, so I set out to make it myself. Natural fibre only, cut modestly, made to last.

October 2025

The false starts

I came from health, not fashion — no technical training, no factory contacts. The early runs came back wrong: fabric that wasn't what I'd been promised, finishes that didn't hold. Those pieces became the archive — sold honestly, not buried.

July 2026

The first real drop

The first collection made exactly to standard — natural fibre, small runs, solid supply chain.

Why Rūh

None of this is new.

For most of human history, clothes were simply made of what grew — cotton, linen, silk, wool. And for centuries, Muslims made the finest of it: the cloth that merchants crossed continents to trade, that whole cities were known for, made by hand and made to last. Fabric was something you inherited, not something you replaced.

That didn't end because natural fibre stopped working. It ended because synthetic was cheaper to produce and faster to sell. We think that was a bad trade — and Ruh is a small attempt at reversing it.

"Modest wear today is made without soul — synthetic, mass-produced, sold on how it looks and nothing else. The golden age of Muslim trade was the opposite: cloth made with ihsan, the doing of things beautifully and well even when no one's watching. You could feel the difference in the object itself."

We named the brand after the missing thing. Rūh — soul. Because that's what we're trying to put back: real transparency about what a piece is made of, quality you can feel, fabric that's tayyib — not just permissible, but genuinely good, clean, worth keeping close. Halal is the baseline. Tayyib is the standard we build to.
